Raccoon Mountain Caverns and Campground

Last week flew by for me. Although it feels like we have been in Chattanooga a lot longer than a week and a half. This has been a nice place to stay, and I would probably want to come back, but I am excited to be in Asheville, North Carolina. We did have some weather this past week, but we were still able to head out and visit some places. I was thinking about going to the cave here, but we never made it there. Tuesday, we went to a winery, it was in Central time (Chattanooga is Eastern time) and it was only ten minutes or so away from where we were staying. It was a nice place and had pretty good pizza. The Tennessee River is behind us. Wednesday, we went to a distillery and had an awesome tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, and we met great couple and had fun talking with them. Did you know that in 1964 the Government made laws on how bourbon could be distilled? Bourbon must contain at least 51% corn, be aged in a brand-new charred oak barrel for at least two years and can o

"Keeping it Real" well, I lied on the last blog post. We started to head out to Raccoon Mountain and Caverns Campground and hubby noticed that the driver's side back two tires on the rig didn't look right. During the leveling process the leaf springs can swivel and so you must start driving to have them move back into place. The leaf spring is connected to the axel. Well, we started moving and I was keeping watch so that the back tires would not rub each other, and it just wasn't working out. Hubby went under the rig (poor guy it had been raining and it was muddy) to see if he could jack the axel up to try to get it back into place and that is when he noticed something didn't look right. He went to the other side and then saw what had happed, the leaf spring weld broke from the frame. We went to the front office to see if we could stay at least one more night to try to figure all of this out. Unfortunately, most companies that handle this type of thing are clo

What a week we had, fortunately no tornado warnings, just rain and wind. Actually, not too strong, so that was good as well. We are stayed in Marion, Arkansas, but where only 15 minutes away from Memphis. Last Sunday we did some exploring and went to the Peabody Hotel and watched the ducks play in the water. Our site for the week. As you can see, it had  rained a couple of days before we arrived. The view of downtown Memphis skyline. In front of The Peabody. Cute little ducks. They were enjoying their fountain. In 1930's Frank Schutt, General Manager of the Peabody Hotel, came back from a  hunting trip in Arkansas. Back in those days you could use live ducks as decoys, so after a few drinks, he placed the decoys in the fountain and everyone loved watching them. It is still the tradition to this day. The ducks come  down from heir suite on the roof at 11:00am in the elevator  and go back to their suite at 5:00pm.  The beautiful ceiling. The Peabody was built across the street  in 18
