Buffalograss Who Knew?

What a week it has been, hot is the word for it. Actually, the tee-ball game last Thursday was moved from 6:30pm to 7:30pm and I was so glad about that. It cooled down to 96 degrees and that made it so much better. The weather also gives us beautiful skies.
These dark and mysterious clouds did not produce rain for us.

I just love the way they look.

Another picture of the moon.

Monday was laundry day and that felt good to knock it out in one day. Funny, my washer/dryer takes 2 and a half hours for one little load, going into the house, I can knock laundry in a lot less time than that. Don't get me wrong, I love my washer/dryer.

It was over three years ago we got this, so love being able to
wash in the RV verses a laundry mat.

"Keeping it real" Tuesday was a gut-wrenching day, I woke up to find out one of my best friend's daughter has passed away. She found out she had cancer in 2020 and battled through that and even got to ring the bell, not only to find out later that the cancer had spread and after that there was nothing that would work. I didn't even make my bed that day and that says something for a person that might border on OCD. I just went out to mow and talk with God about it all. Here is her story  https://gofund.me/7bfac398. Thank you if you donate! It would mean so much! She is with Jesus, but the hospital doesn't care about that, they just want to be paid.

I am trying to get the grass growing out here and it is tough. We did by a sprinkler so I am praying that the Lord will help grow the grass.

Love this sprinkler and it reaches far away.

We have a long way to go.

So, we invited a friend of ours that lives out here to come over and hubby had a fire in the Solo Stove, and we were talking and just enjoying the evening. I was saying how I wanted the grass to grow and our friend, Paul, told us about Buffalograss. It is a prairie grass that can grow in the plains. Well, we have some here. I had never heard of it before. The Bison love it. It likes water in the hot summer, so I was hoping it will spread and I don't mind watering to help it along the way.

Here is hubby holding some in his hands. "Advice from a buffalo: Stand your ground,
have a tough hide, keep moving, cherish wide open spaces, have a strong
spirit, roam wild and free, let the chips fall where they may!"

Years ago, this was grass lands and didn't have mesquite or cedar. Those trees are not native out here. I asked Paul “how did they get here” and he said it was on the hooves of the cattle. When they would move cattle to be sold or just to cooler weather to eat that grass, they would always bring them back to the homestead and they would bring back the seed and then self-plant. So now out here we have thousands upon thousands cedar and mesquite. I don't mind too many mesquites, but I do not like the cedars. I guess the main reason, well there are two, that I don't like cedars is because they drink 100 gallons of water per day and they are like an upside-down funnel, so when it rains, they take that as well, not allowing other vegetation around them to get any of the rain water. Also, they make me sneeze.

I should have taken a before picture because a few cedars were around this mesquite.
I like the way this mesquite looks and would love to have the grass grow all the way to it and farther.

Thursday, we went to tee-ball and had a really great time. The girls (Tess and Reese) are getting so much better, it is fun to watch them grow in this sport. Actually, a lot of the children are and some of them want the ball pitched to them instead of using the tee-ball stand. Funny story, Kirstin's mom (Carrie) came over to help babysit with the girls, we met for the first time on Thursday at dinner before the game. She had a funny story, she told me that Tess said I had a temper, she asked her, Ms Stacy has a temper, she said yes, but she leaves it at home. My mind was all over the place while she was saying this - I have never gotten upset around the girl, then Carrie said, so Ms Stacy has a temper and Tess says no not a temper a camper. Oh, my stars I love that story. Makes me laugh just writing it on here.

Here is what the stand looks like.

The skies out here are amazing and God just gives me so much pleasure in looking at His handiwork.

I love the pink sky. "For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and
invisible, whether throne or dominions or rulers or authorities - all things have
been created through Him an for Him." Colossians 1:16 (NASB).

Friday, we went to Midland to run multiple errands and at Home Depot found some turf grass that we didn't know belongs to us. Hmmmmm, should we ask for a percentage of the profits?

Crazy seeing your last name just around town.

On the way back home, I saw a sign for McCamey, Texas. I have heard Kirsten talking about that town, but we haven't been. Supposed to be a nice place to go and have some food and beer and listen to bands. Anyway, I looked up the history of the town. I always like to give you some history. McCamey sprang to life in 1925 as a boomtown after wildcatter George B. McCamey discovered oil near a line of the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway. Within six months 10,000 people had moved to the dusty tent city. From 1927 until 1932 McCamey was also home to one of West Texas’ first petroleum refineries. The Mendoza Trail Museum houses oil boom mementos, along with Native American artifacts, fossils and relics of the Wild West days. An early Santa Fe Railroad depot sits on the museum site, as does the 1915 Adrian House, a Western bungalow filled with period furnishings and clothing. The museum takes its name from Spanish explorer Juan Domínguez de Mendoza. During the 17th century he followed an Indian trail through Castle Gap, a natural break in the mesas. Gold Rush 49ers, military expeditions and cattle drovers followed the trail during the 19th century enroute to the Horsehead Crossing of the Pecos River. Fun fact: McCamey has a lot of wind mills.

McCamey High School mascot is the badgers. Football means
a lot around this area and also Texas.

It has been a hot week and today we will most likely ride around on the Polaris and check things out. Also, in our time in Midland we went to Lowes and bought things to make shelves. Storage is lacking in the house and most of the towels and bed sheets are in trash bags. I am ready to have shelves. Poor hubby, but he is a good sport. I will (cross my fingers) take pictures of before and after. Happy Memorial weekend. May God shine His face upon you and yours!!!

If there is something special you would like me to take a picture of, please let me know!
