Alabama

Welcome to Montgomery, Alabama! What an interesting week hubby and I encountered weather wise. Temperatures from the mid 30's to high 70's. Also had some rain and a day when we went site seeing that was very humid. All in all, it was a nice week.

Alabama state sign. The World Games, an international multi-sport event, it has sports or
disciplines or events within sports, that were not contested in the Olympic Games.

Downtown Montgomery

The site had a pond and four Canadian Geese along with one cute little white duck. It was fun watching them and a couple of the days, the geese had a "honking" parade.

The pond

These three always hung out.

These two always hung out and were a little
louder with their honking and goose parades.

I had to go to the Piggly Wiggly, just the name alone made me want to go. So, we found one, it was a little different than I imagined, but we were able to get just about everything needed for our week's stay.

Here we are.

This just cracked me up - had to have a picture of this sign.

Wednesday, hubby got off from work early and we went site seeing and saw the First White House of the Confederacy. Jefferson Davis was the President of the Confederacy. The Confederacy included the states of Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South and North Carolina and Virginia. Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, Kentucky and Missouri were considered boarder states. Fun fact: Within 90 days, Jefferson organized his government. He had to create or help create a postal system, a currency, an army, a navy and a constitution. He was the President for one year and then on the run for four years before he was captured and imprisoned for two years at Fort Monroe, Virginia. Davis was indicted for treason but was never tried. The federal government feared the Davis would be able to prove to a jury that the Southern secession of 1860 to 1861 was legal.

The house where the Davis family lived while he was president.
It was built by William Sayer 1832-35.

Dinning Room

Parlor

We walked around the area heading towards a river that we never found, but let me tell you, I made all my steps that day and more.

Riverside Church

A Cotton Depot turned into a Confederate Military prison.
It held 700 Union soldiers from April to December 1862.

Saw this cloud on the way back from our Walmart trip. Couldn't help myself. What do you see?

"After it, a voice roar; He thunders with His majestic voice, and He does not restrain the lightnings when His voice is heard. God thunders with His voice wondrously, doing great things which we cannot comprehend." Job 37:4-5 (NASB)

Well, another new state with new information about their birds, trees, flowers and motto.

*Alabama: Northern flicker (Bird), Southern Longleaf Pine (Tree), Camellia Camellia japonica (Flower), and Audemus jura rostra defendere "We Dare Maintian Our Rights" (Motto) .
