Shreveport, Louisiana

Welcome to Shreveport, Louisiana population 192,035. It has been a fun week here, some days were cold, but as the week came to an end, we were able to sit outside.

Crossing the border into Louisiana.

Our home for the week.

Cute sign at the KOA office and store.

The pond at the KOA. I didn't get too close,
not sure about alligators, sign said NOT to swim.

There are many things to do here, but we mostly ate the good food. On Wednesday we went to Herby K's. It is a small place, I mean small, maybe 25 can be seated. It opened in 1936 and in 1945 Herby created a platter named the Shrimp Buster. Hubby had that and I had the small Shrimp Buster. It was good, the tartar sauce, out of this world. Nice and spicy. Fun fact: Herby K's began as a store in the bustling town of Shreveport. The west end was growing, and people were flocking to this end of town. The store sold packaged liquor, tobacco, and a sandwich for 15c. At that time, it was named the "Flying Crow" after a train engine. In 1936, Herbert J Busi, Jr, changed the store into a restaurant and Herby K's was born. It has remained in the family all this time and is a place for the locals to hang out as well as tourists.

Hubby and I outside of Herby K's.

I asked our KOA host where a good spot would be to get a picture for our US map, she told me about the River Front Park downtown. Hubby and I went there, and it was a cute place along the river. We ate dinner at the Sam's Town Casino in Smokey Joe's. Just fun to say. After dinner I promptly lost $14 dollars at a slot machine and then we walked to the River Front Park.

Cute picture on the wall of Smokey Joe's.

You know the shape of Louisiana (a boot), so we needed to
be a little far back. Hoping it looks good in the map.

Roses

I know I can move it!

Lights shining on the roses. "Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. Isaiah 60:1 (NIV)

Since we are in a new state, I will share with you Louisiana's state bird, tree, flower and motto.

*Louisiana: Brown pelican (Bird), Bald cypress (Tree), Magnolia (Flower), and Union, Justice and Confidence (Motto)

Saturday, we arrived in Mississippi and today we are ready for the Super Bowl. I am hoping that others will want to join in on some Super Bowl fun. I miss not having a party at the house or going over to Fonda and Jim's to a party at their house. We had a lot of fun at those parties.

If there is something special you would like me to take a picture of, please let me know!
