Mermaids are here in Florida
Happy Mother's Day! My prayer is that you will enjoy your day with your mom or your babies. "Her children rise up and bless her; her husband also, and he praises her, saying: May daughters have done nobly, but you excel them all." Proverbs 31:28-29 (NASB).
Well, the truck is fixed and working now. We stayed in Brooksville, Florida four days longer than excepted, but as hubby and I like to say, "Life is an Adventure". We rented a car while the truck was getting worked on and had an adventure to Weeki Wachee Springs State Park. It was a fun day, and we were able to watch the Mermaid Show.
"Weeki Wachee" was named by the Seminole Indians. It means "little spring" or "winding river." The spring is so deep that the bottom has never been found. Each day, more than 117 million gallons of clear, fresh 74-degree water bubbles up out of the subterranean caverns. Weeki Wachee Springs is one of those old Florida tourist attractions that everyone wanted to visit in the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's.
The attraction was founded in 1947 by Newton Perry. In its glory days, beautiful young women came from all over the world to audition for roles as mermaids. Famous people from Florida and elsewhere came to the springs for vacation. Fun fact: Elvis Presley came to visit the mermaids July 30, 1961. He was filming "Follow That Dream" in Yankeetown and drove over 30 miles to the springs for the visit.
