Brookshire, Texas

For a little over a month, we will be staying at Houston West RV Park in Brookshire, Texas. It is an ok RV park, a lot of full timers living here. The cost for a month was probably the lowest that we have paid. That is always good news, especially around Christmas time.
Our site until January 7th. It is funny to see my old car parked in front of the rig,
but this picture was taken on Turkey Soup day and the kids were over.

Brookshire was named in honor of Nathan Brookshire, who was a large landowner in the vicinity and a leading resident. He was a captain in the Texas army and participated in the storming and capture of Béxar (pronounced bear) in 1835. In 1893 John Kellner donated land and filed a plat for the town of Kellner out of the William Cooper Survey, one of the oldest head-rights in the state. Also in 1893, John Brookshire and O.C. Drew filed their plat for the town of Brookshire out of the H. H. Pennington Survey. On May 24, 1946, The City of Brookshire was incorporated, comprising both the Kellner and the Brookshire/Drew plats. Before that time Brookshire had all the characteristics of a very small town and farming community. It has a long history of farming and ranching. Flat land, productive soil and good rainfall make this area ideal for crops and plentiful grass for the cattle industry.

Fun fact: the siege of Béxar was an early campaign of the Texas Revolution in which a volunteer Texian army defeated Mexican forces at San Anton de Béxar (now San Antonio, Texas) Texians (Anglo-American residents of Mexican Texas and, later, the Republic of Texas. Today, the term is used to identify early settlers of Texas, especially those who supported the Texas Revolution.) had become disillusioned with the Mexican government as President and General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna's tenure became increasingly dictatorial. In early October 1835, Texians settlers gathered in Gonzales to stop Mexican troops from reclaiming a small cannon. The resulting skirmish, known as the Battle of Gonzales, launched the Texas Revolution. Men continued to assemble in Gonzales and soon established the Texan Army. Despite a lack of military training, well-respected local leader General Stephen F. Austin was elected commander. Santa Anna had sent his brother-in-law, General Martin Perfecto de Cos, to Béxar with reinforcements. On October 13th, Austin led his forces towards Béxar to confront the Mexican troops. The Texians initiated a siege on the city. Two days after the Texian victory over Gonzales, respected Texian leader Stephen F. Austin reported to the San Felipe Committee of Public Safety that "War is declared-pubic opinion has proclaimed it against a Military despotism (a county ruled by a dictator)-The campaign has commenced".

Last Monday, we had a "Girl's Movie Day". My sister, Stefanie, Tressa and I went to see "The Fablemen's" a movie based on Steven Spielberg's life. It was a good movie and kept us engaged. We gave it an 8 out of 10.

Stefanie, myself and Tressa.

Not a very good picture, but I was able to capture the moon and the planet Mars Tuesday night. "He who made the Pleiades and Orion and changes deep darkness into morning, who also darkens day into night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out on the surface of the earth, the Lord is His name." Amos 5:8 (NABS).

*The Pleiades, also known as The Seven Sisters, Messier 45 and other names by different cultures, is an asterism and an open star cluster containing middle-aged, hot B-type stars in the north-west of the constellation Taurus. At a distance of about 444 light years, it is among the nearest star clusters to Earth.

The little light is Mars.

I totally had an amazing time Wednesday morning and afternoon. I was invited to attend the Met Women's Bible study Christmas party. Ashley, the Worship Pastor, started us off singing Christmas songs, the food was wonderful, the speaker, Johnnie Haines, gave a wonderful talk and we had all four previous and current Women's Ministry Directors in attendance. After the party, Sarah and I went to lunch. You guessed it, Mexican food. Memories I will treasure.

Jan Freeman, Johnnie Haines, Catherine Martinez, and myself.

The beautiful ladies at my table.

Well, hubby got an early Christmas present, and he was over the moon. With his new toy, we will be able to stay at my dad's property and he will be able to work.

The silver flag pole is where he will attach the Starlink.

This is the box it came in.

Inside the box.

Hubby is so happy!! Merry Christmas, babe, I love you.

Thursday was a fun night!! We met up with Jim and Fonda (not at a Mexican restaurant) for dinner. We were there for two hours, fortunately for us, it wasn't that busy. Guess what they had outside! A big Chair!! So much fun!

Good times!

Just got to love a big chair.

Friday night was our Small Group Christmas party. We had a blast; the food was wonderful as well as the ladies. "Keeping it real" I do miss them while being on the road, it is hard not to see them every week and "do life" with them. I am thankful for the GroupMe app and keeping up with them. Asking for prayer from them and praying over their prayer requests. Also, Jill made zucchini soup; it is my favorite.

The whole gang! Love these ladies!

Michelle, me, Tori, Anastasia - back row.

Yummy zucchini soup. Thanks, Jill!

Saturday, we had a wonderful time celebrating Lailah's first birthday! Caitlyn and Lailah are our "granddaughters" (via one of Tressa best friends, Paige) and we enjoy them. Nice to come together with family and friends. "Today I will enjoy the beautiful things in life." Unknown.

Hubby, me, Paige, and Lailah - the year old.

Big sister, Caitlyn and Laiah!

Well, the first week staying at Houston West RV Park is completed. The next blog will be the six-month recap. I will need to go back through my daily planner and see where we have been and what we have done over the past six-months. Time flies while you are out living big in small RV.

If there is something special you would like me to take a picture of, please let me know!

Drop a comment for me and let me know your thoughts on the blog.

God, the RV & me...
