Six Month Recap and Katy, Texas

Can you believe we only have seven more days before Christmas? This year has flown by, the past six months have gone even faster. Over the last six months we have been in ten states. Five we have never been to with an RV and five that we have already stayed in with the RV. Hubby keeps records of how much drive time, how many miles and our average MPG. So, he pulled up the numbers for me. In the past six months, we have been driving for 110.46 hours, we have driven 5,235 miles with an average of 9.8 MPG. Not bad on the MPG if you think about the different mountains we drove across.

We have been in 27 states over the past 2 years.

The five new states were Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Utah and Nevada. Here are some pictures from those states.

The five states we have already stayed in with the RV are Montana, Idaho, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. We stayed at the exact RV park in Montana as last year Bearcamp Campgrounds. We had to find a different park for Coeur d'Alene, Idaho this year, the parks we could fit into were all taken. We were able to stay out at the fairgrounds. We also stayed a week in Orofino, Idaho with my mom and stepdad before heading out to Twin Falls for two weeks and then Boise for two weeks. We stayed in Tucson, Arizona this time instead of Phoenix and then we also stayed in Las Cruces as well as Carlsbad, New Mexico, a new place for us in New Mexico. When we headed to Texas, we stayed at my dad's and then in Fredericksburg, Texas. After that we stayed three weeks in Montgomery, and we are here in Brookshire until January 7, 2023.

Our site in Brookshire, Texas

Over the past six months, we had to replace the bedroom a/c and we did that in Twin Falls, Idaho. While we are here in Brookshire, we need to have the dining room slide out fixed. Praise the Lord no flat tires or any other mishaps along our journey.

Being back in Texas has been a whirlwind for me during the day. I have had many lunches and have seen a lot of amazing friends and of course our amazing family. Funny thing is, I haven't been taking pictures. I get so mad at myself when I forget to take pictures.

Glad I was able to have this picture taken.

Brookshire is just 10 minuets down I-10 from Katy, Texas. As quickly this area is growing, in no time the two towns will be connected to each other with more businesses and subdivisions springing up.  In the beginning, Katy was only wide-open prairie, the hunting ground of the Karankawa Indian tribes, the winter-feeding grounds of great herds of bison and large flocks of wild ducks, geese, sand hill and whooping cranes, and numerous other game birds. Also, home to longhorn cattle, deer and wolves. Earliest settlement of the community known as Cane Island, for the Cane Island Creek that runs through it, was in 1872. The town site of Katy was laid out and platted by J.O. Thomas. The 1900 hurricane that destroyed Galveston also destroyed most of the buildings in Katy, the post office that was built in 1896 was destroyed, but they rebuilt it as well as other buildings. The main industry was rice farming, also peanuts and cotton. The Katy Independent School District was formed in 1918. A gas field was discovered in 1934. Many wells were dug, and this industry is still an important part of the city today.

The City of Katy was formally incorporated in 1945. Katy has always been a traditional, family style community, and it continues to offer residents the care of a small town.

"The love we give away is the only love we keep." Elbert Hubbard

"Keeping it real" we lived in Katy for about six years, built our home and were in a wonderful cul-de-sac with other neighbors who were building their houses as well. We had Halloween, Christmas Eve and 4th of July gatherings. As well as other gatherings. Our oldest, Tara, graduated from Cinco Ranch High School and our son, Tim, graduated from Seven Lakes High School. We moved Tressa's Sophomore year to Hockey, where we lived for 13 years before full time RVing. Katy was a great city that kept on growing and even though I enjoyed our time there, I am not sad that we left. God has been so amazing, and He has allowed us to do so much, it has truly been amazing to see what He has done in our lives and I can't wait to see what He does next. I enjoy being on adventures with Him and of course, hubby.

If there is something special you would like me to take a picture of, please let me know!
