Mount Shasta, CA
Our first stop in California is to a small-town named, Mount Shasta. It was named by Peter Skene Odgen, a chief trader with the Hudson's Bay Company, on February 14, 1827. He named it after the Native Americans who lived in the area. Shasta means Precious Water and a generic term for "a teacher". The Shasta are an Native American Tribe of Northern California. Mount Shasta is the second highest peak in the Cascade Mountain Range. On our drive in the "Lava Fire" was burning and it was very smokey in the air. We could hardly see the mountain. "Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke because the Lord descended upon it in fire;" Exodus 19:18a (NASB)
We stayed at a nice KOA (Kampgrounds of America), but a little to dusty for my taste. It was hot, except for Tuesday, we had a nice rain on that day. I was praying that the Lord would bring enough rain to stop the spread of the fires, but I don't think we had that much. Hopefully some relief for the firefighters.
A hot squirrel trying to cool off.
On Thursday we went to McCloud Falls named after the McCloud River. It is a 77-mile river that flows east of and parallel to the upper Sacramento River. This river was originally known as the "McLeod River", after the Hudson's Bay Company hunter and trapper Alexander Roderick McLoed. He explored it during the winter of 1829-1830. By the 1860's, the spelling "McCloud" was widely used, likely because that was the conventional American spelling of the Scottish name.
Then made our way to the Middle Falls. I couldn't find a sign for the Middle Falls.
Last but not least, the Upper Falls.
This area was truly beautiful and we so enjoyed God's creations.
Friday, we had a nice dinner out, walked a bit in town and saw God's glory through His clouds. I just love looking at the clouds.
