South Texas week 2
Can you believe it is already December? Where did this year go? Living in an RV is amazing and hard at times. The rig is too small to host Christmas with the family, so we will be going to Tim's house. His roommates will be off to Michigan, so that will be nice to have a house with a real Christmas tree. Next week, I will show you my Christmas tree. I think you will get a kick out of it, bought it at Buc-ees!
We had a nice week and were able to see hubby's brother, Fred and wife, Susan two more times. They came out to see our rig and we met them for dinner. Fun times with them.
Fred and hubby.
Good food and service.
This is where we met Fred and Susan.
It has been amazing weather. We had a cold front blow through over Thanksgiving, and it was cooler weather. The past couple of days it has been warmer. Friday was a high of 86 degrees. The clouds are amazing here. I am enjoying watching God's creativity. "O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His lovingkindness is everlasting." 1 Chronicles 16:34 (NASB).
It is also beautiful here at night. Sorry the picture is a little blurry, but I think you will see what a nice evening it was.
Mission, Texas is the birthplace of Tom Landry. If you don't know or watch football, his name might not mean anything to you. He was the Dallas Cowboys Football coach from 1960 until 1988. He had a remarkable career. He was the son of Ray and Ruth Landry and one of four children. Played football for Mission High School as a quarterback and punter. He led his team to a 12-0 season his senior year. He went to the University of Texas at Austin as an industrial engineer major, but after one semester, he left to serve in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. He returned to UT in 1946, where he also played football for Longhorns as a fullback and defensive back. He played one season for the New York Yankees but moved across town in 1950 to play for the New York Giants. Fun fact: All-American Football Conference had a football team named the New York Yankees; they were not one of the teams that was absorbed by the NFL. Tom was a remarkable man and changed to course of football. He also recruited soccer players and track and field athletes to play as punters and wide receivers. Tom was inducted into the "Ring of Honor" at the Texas Stadium in 1993. Sadly, he passed in 2000. Good things and people come from small towns.
Yesterday, we left Mission and headed to Kingsville, Texas. We will stay for a week, visit family and friends. I will update you next time.
