The Joy of the Journey

What an amazing time we had in Kentucky. So much to do and to see and we were only in Louisville (except when we went to see Noah's ark).  I am finding this journey to be so amazing, God's creations, His glory, His love showing everywhere. I have a few more pictures of Kentucky and some new pictures of Martinsville, Indiana. We drove to a Harvest Host Winery to spend the night.

Last Sunday we went to Churchills Down and took a tour, it was just amazing. A beautiful racetrack built by Meriwether Lewis Clark, Jr. the grandson of the famous explorer William Clark. The racetrack was funded by his uncles, John and Henry Churchill and built on their land. In 1875 it was located 3 miles south of Louisville. Fun fact: Meriwether went to England to watch how their racetracks were operated then came back and built Churchill Downs better than England's.

Was a very lovely day and we did bring home a little money.

One of the twin spires. The two steeples sit atop the
grandstand and is the track's signature trademark.

Out by the paddock area.

One of my favorite horses.

The paddock, right before they saddle the horses and
get ready to have the jockeys mount their horse.

We also took a historic tour of downtown Louisville and certainly got in our steps. The buildings were so cool and built in the 1800's in a Victorian style. There was a lovely park where you could watch Shakespeare plays for free. Also, a very pretty fountain and a very strange tree.

The fountain.

The Witches Tree.

While in Kentucky we went to a bourbon tasting at Peerless Distilling Company. I did try the bourbon, but I am good without having any more for a while. It was fun and very interesting on how they make it and how long they age different bourbons. After that we walked downtown and took a picture with a huge bat at the Louisville Slugger Museum. I became dizzy trying to look at it all the way in the air, felt like we were back looking at the Redwoods in Northern California. It was a great two weeks in Kentucky, and I can't wait to go back again. So much to see and to do.

Can you spot my hubby?

Just a fun little piece of art work.

We went to Indiana on Saturday and spent the night at the Cedar Creek Winery. It is so very beautiful and relaxing. One of the nicer Harvest Host where we have stayed. The people, the grounds, the atmosphere, all very wonderful.

There was once a contractor named Hoosier employed
on the Louisville and Portland Canal who preferred
to hire laborers from Indiana. They were called
"Hoosier's Men" and eventually all Indianans
were called Hoosiers. Indiana became the
Hoosier state over 150 years ago.

The distillery.

I think this is a beautiful place.

Looking over a vineyard and our "home on wheels".

Since we are in a new state, even if only for a day, I will share with you the state bird, tree, flower and motto. I wasn't sure what the state holds, but I must say, I need to come back and stay longer. It is very pretty, and I didn't realize it was so hilly.

"Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it." Greg Anderson. We have been asked by others "how long are you going to RV full time", I don't know how to answer that. I am finding out so much about America and how God created this beautiful continent. I am excited to see what is out there and not stay in my own box. Not just do what is comfortable, but to explore and journey to new sites. My desire is that you will find what excites you and follow the dream that God has given you. Be courageous and adventurous, live like this is your last day because we never know when it will be our last day. I am not saying this to be sad, but to encourage. Too many times in my life I have stayed in my comfort zone, now I want to see what all God has to offer. "Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth." Proverbs 27:1 (NASB)
