Fine Gold

We stayed in the cute town of Orofino, Idaho. In Spanish Orofino means "Fine Gold." We stayed on the Clearwater River and that was beautiful to watch.  My mom and Dave joined us for the short week, they stayed in the Best Western and it was beautiful as well. Their room also looked out over the river. We had some great adventures and ate at some nice places.

Love our site at night.

"This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all mean to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For here is one God, and one mediator also between God and man, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time." 1 Timothy 2:3-6 (NASB)

Monday, we drove out to see the Dent Bridge. The Dent Bridge is a suspension bridge in the northwest United States, located in North Central Idaho in Clearwater County, north of Orofino. It is 17 miles up the North Fork Clearwater River, now the Dworshak Reservoir. Completed 51 years ago in 1971 at a cost of $7,848,950, it has a main span of 1,050 feet, and an overall length of 1,550 feet.

Fun fact: The bridge takes its name from Charles and Katherine Dent, who in 1895 owned land on the western side of where the bridge now stands.

Amazing

Hubby and I enjoying the site of the bridge.

A nest on top, either an Eagle or an Osprey.

Thursday was very nice weather wise, the coolest all week long, and we went out to see the Dworshak Dam. Dworshak Dam is a concrete gravity dam in the western United States, on the North Fork Clearwater River in Clearwater County, Idaho. the dam is located approximately four miles northwest of Orofino and impounds the Dworshak Reservoir for flood control and hydroelectricity generation.

The dam is 717 feet tall, 1600 in elevation, opened in 1973 and is 3287 at its widest point. The construction cost during the build was $327 million. Originally authorized as Bruces Eddy Dam in the 1962 Flood Control Act, the name was changed to Dworshak Dam in 1963. Named of the congressman who helped get the dam project moving along. Construction began in 1966, and the project started operating for flood control in 1972. The three turbine units began generating power in 1973 and power is sent out to areas in Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

Dworshak Dam is the third called dam in the U.S. The reservoir extends upstream for roughly 54 miles into the Clearwater National Forest in the Bitterroot Mountains.

Hubby and I enjoying the views.

This was half way across the dam.

Of course, we also saw Bigfoot, so needed a picture so I could send it to Tim. Tim responded back by saying, "See, he is everywhere." It has been fun to share things with the kids and grandkids while we have been enjoying the beautiful creation God has made for us. "The journey, not the destination matters..." by T.S. Eliot.

American proud Bigfoot.
