Christmas in Brookshire, Texas

Image
Merry Christmas!!!! Hope you are having a most excellent time with family and friends. Tressa, Andrew, Tim, Stef, Baine and Scott are celebrating with us. Before I get into that, let me share a little about the past week. Tuesday, I was able to catch up with Beth and Sue for lunch. And yes, it was a Mexican restaurant. Thursday was lunch with Lisa and Judy from Rear Life Tomball, but sorry to say, not a Mexican restaurant, which was fine, because we went to Chili’s, and I haven't been there for a long time. Friday, we met up with some amazing people. Tim and their daughter went to Junior High and High School together. Tim stayed with them to finish out his Senior year when we moved to Hockley. So sorry, no pictures. So, we went to Christmas Eve service on Saturday, and it was special. It was fun, serious and glorifying to the Lord. One of my favorite Christmas items to collect are Nativity scenes. There is a place here in Brookshire, Brookwood, that has a community for adults with

Six Month Recap and Katy, Texas

Can you believe we only have seven more days before Christmas? This year has flown by, the past six months have gone even faster. Over the last six months we have been in ten states. Five we have never been to with an RV and five that we have already stayed in with the RV. Hubby keeps records of how much drive time, how many miles and our average MPG. So, he pulled up the numbers for me. In the past six months, we have been driving for 110.46 hours, we have driven 5,235 miles with an average of 9.8 MPG. Not bad on the MPG if you think about the different mountains we drove across.  We have been in 27 states over the past 2 years. The five new states were Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Utah and Nevada. Here are some pictures from those states. Out to eat with hubby, Wisconsin. Wisconsin KOA. Pabst Mansion, Wisconsin. Malls of Americas. Our site for the week in Minnesota. North Dakota Utah Mountains Hell's Kitchen, Las Vegas, Nevada Family time in Las Vegas. The five states we h

Brookshire, Texas

For a little over a month, we will be staying at Houston West RV Park in Brookshire, Texas. It is an ok RV park, a lot of full timers living here. The cost for a month was probably the lowest that we have paid. That is always good news, especially around Christmas time.  Our site until January 7th. It is funny to see my old car parked in front of the rig,  but this picture was taken on Turkey Soup day and the kids were over. Brookshire was named in honor of Nathan Brookshire, who was a large landowner in the vicinity and a leading resident. He was a captain in the Texas army and participated in the storming and capture of  BĂ©xar (pronounced bear)  in 1835. In 1893 John Kellner donated land and filed a plat for the town of Kellner out of the William Cooper Survey, one of the oldest head-rights in the state. Also in 1893, John Brookshire and O.C. Drew filed their plat for the town of Brookshire out of the H. H. Pennington Survey. On May 24, 1946, The City of Brookshire was incorporated,

Ducks, do I have to love them?

Image
So, before church last Sunday, I took a cute picture of some ducks and then when we came back from church, I wanted to have those ducks for dinner. They tore up my plant. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but that plant had been out for two weeks, and they never touched it. It is a Chicks and Hens and hopefully will come back. It is sad, because my mother-in-law gave it to me, and I have had that plant for years. She passed away in 2016 and I wanted to bring that plant with us on the road. Fun fact: the plant can grow up to 6 inches tall and 20 inches broad, it is a rosette-forming succulent evergreen perennial, spreading by offsets (in botany and horticulture, an offset is a small, virtually complete daughter plant that has been naturally and asexually produced on the mother plant). Cute ducks! Bad ducks!! Last week was busy for me in a good way. The bad part was that I didn't take very many pictures. I was able to meet up with Fonda on Wednesday, Beth on Thursday and Jean on
