Six Month Recap and The East Coast

I would like to start this blog by saying Happy 60th Birthday to my wonderful hubby! I wanted to do something special for him, so I texted our son, Tim, and asked if he knew what type of drone he would like. We talked about the drone back in December while out with Tim and his roommates. Hubby actually texted what he wanted to Tim. I found the website and then I found the perfect time to order it, the 3-weeks we are staying in Maine. I let him know that for Father's Day and his birthday would be one gift. He was able to open it before his birthday, but after Father's Day. We love you! You are an amazing man, husband and father.

As you can see, he likes his gift.

This month makes two and a half years on the road, we have stayed at least one night in 38 states, and it has been amazing! God is so creative and loving. I give Him all the praise for allowing us on this adventure. "All creation, come praise the name of the LORD. Praise His name alone. The glory of God is greater than heaven and earth." Psalm 148:13 (CEV).

I did not take this photo, just wanted
to show some of God's creation.

For the last six months we have traveled to thirteen states beginning in Brookshire, Texas to where we are right now in Lebanon, Maine. Our total travel time was seventy-four hours, thirteen minutes and twenty-seven seconds. We traveled 3415.6 miles and actually got 10.3 miles to the gallon. This journey has been an amazing one and I can't wait until October, then we will have all lower 48 states completed.

Getting fuller!

Last Sunday, we took Mom and Dave to Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. A cute town, not as cute as Kennebunkport, but cute. The Abenaki tribe ranged throughout central NH. Their trails circled Lake Winnipesaukee and fanned out to other lakes and along river valleys where fish and game were plentiful. The native American presence had largely disappeared by the mid-18th century. Wolfeboro’s proprietors granted land in 1759 to a group of men who agreed to settle the town, and named it in honor of General James Wolfe, a hero at the battle of Quebec that year.

General James Wolfe.

The first permanent settlers of Wolfeboro arrived in 1768, the same year that Colonial Governor John Wentworth began clearing land for his estate and surrounding towns were settled about the same time.

Governor John Wentworth.

Wolfeboro claims to be the oldest summer resort in America because John Wentworth, built his country estate here in 1769. Sadly, he enjoyed his 3600 acre property for only a few years. As a Loyalist, he fled when the American Revolution began, and his home on the shores of what would later be named Lake Wentworth. His home burned in 1820, the same year he died. Now the cellar hole and surrounding land is a state-owned historic site, and the road leading past it is memorialized as the Governor John Wentworth Highway.

A speculative illustration of his summer house.

Fun fact: The movie "What About Bob" story line took place on Lake Winnipesaukee. This 1991 comedy stars Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss in what is supposed to be a relaxing vacation getaway to Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. While Lake Winnipesaukee is an actual lake in New Hampshire, the movie was actually filmed on Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia.

Didn't take a lot of pictures, did more shopping than in Kennebunkport.

"Keeping it real" I am now the proud owner of five gnomes. Yes, you read correctly, five. Bought the first two at the Hobby Lobby in Rochester, New Hampshire and then three of them in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.

Here is my Fall gnome.

Here is my 4th of July gnome, I have that out now.

Here are two Christmas gnomes and a Halloween gnome. The left gnome's
nose lights up as does the middle gnome, but his has different colors.

Lake Winnipesaukee is behind us.

We took Mom and Dave to the airport last Monday; it is always hard to say good-bye. We had a great time with them, and we were able to visit, laugh, eat, play cards, and enjoy New Hampshire, Massachusetts, as well as Maine. After we dropped them off hubby and I went to Plymouth, Massachusetts. It was a great day and another cute town. I have already written about it on a previous blog as I went down the rabbit hole on Plymouth, so I will just show you some photos.

This is the historical sign in Plymouth Park.

Just another cute sign.

Here is Plymouth Rock.

Can you see the rock behind my head?

Here is a bed.

The long boat to get to shore.

Cute houses across the water.

Cute church. Took this as we were leaving.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday were days where we stayed home, as you know, we have a smaller washer/dryer combo, and it was used all those days. I can proudly say that on Friday everything had been washed.

Saturday, we went over to the Marker's. Jennifer Harris Marker has been in our lives for over 31 years. It has been fun watching her grow up, get married, become a mom. One of my best friends, Robin, is her mom. They just moved to New Hampshire in May for Paul's work. Paul fixed ribs, sausage, hot dogs and there was fruit, veggies, beans and Mac n cheese. They went all out for us. Their new (to them) home was beautiful and built in the late 1700's, so amazing! We had a great time, had fun with Liam and Noah, but also with the newest member of the family, Owen. He was too cute and kept us laughing. Very amazing family and so glad we were close enough to see them. Before we knew it six hours had passed. Gus was happy when we arrived back to the rig.

The barn.

The beautiful house.

Hubby, me, Jenn and Paul. Thanks again for everything.

Today we will head out to Portland, Maine to see lighthouses. More on that on our next blog. By the way, this is my 151 blog posts. So far so good. Hope you are enjoying them as much as we are enjoying the journey and sharing with you.

If there is something special you would like me to take a picture of, please let me know!
